1️⃣ UPDATE: MDR for UPI will be implemented immediately after Diwali
Last week, reports came out that the 0.4% fee had been postponed until January 2027. However, according to NPCI's official statement on 13 October, MDR will be implemented on P2M payments of ₹2,000 or more "immediately after Diwali". The exact date will be announced separately.
→ The MDR fee will not apply during the Diwali peak period (6–8 November). P2P transfers will remain free.
2️⃣ Online gaming GST: Tax demand on Dream11, Gameskraft and Games24x7 reduced by 75%
Following the Supreme Court's decision, GST will be calculated only on players' initial deposits. Winnings used to play the game again will not be considered new deposits.
The principal tax demand against the three companies has fallen from ₹70,210 crore to ₹17,300 crore. Interest and penalties are separate.
→ In the gaming industry, tax is calculated based on deposits, i.e., Pay-in.
3️⃣ Fake bank account network busted: ₹10,000 for each account
Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested 4 people who provided bank accounts and SIM cards to fraudsters. The network was linked to 54 cases and fraud worth approximately ₹10 crore.
→ A bank account can be frozen if money linked to fraud enters it. Keep proof of every order: UTR, Invoice ID, video and bank statement.
4️⃣ Freecharge received preliminary RBI approval for a payment aggregator
On 17 October, Axis Bank's company Freecharge received preliminary approval (in-principle approval) from the RBI to process online and offline payments.
→ The merchant payments market in India is becoming increasingly regulated.
5️⃣ Apple Pay in India, but without UPI
On iPhones, tap-to-pay using Axis Bank Visa/Mastercard credit cards, with Face ID and without a PIN/OTP. No UPI or RuPay.
→ UPI is still the king of everyday payments.

Axis Bank ki company Freecharge ko 17 October ko RBI se online aur offline payments process karne ke liye preliminary approval (in-principle approval) mila.
→ India mein merchant payments ka market aur zyada regulated hota ja raha hai.
5️⃣ Apple Pay India mein, par UPI ke bina
iPhone par Axis Bank Visa/Mastercard credit cards se tap-to-pay, Face ID se, bina PIN/OTP. UPI aur RuPay nahi.
→ Roz ke payments ka king abhi bhi UPI hai.
