The ₹2000+ merchant fee set for 15 October got pushed back after trader and fintech pushback (NPCI, 9 Oct).
→ No extra payin cost for now, but it returns in the new year.
2️⃣ Fintech stocks slid on the fee uncertainty
On 8 Oct, Paytm's parent fell ~10%, MobiKwik ~8%, Pine Labs ~5%.
→ The market hates MDR ambiguity.
3️⃣ Courts are reining in cyber-freezes
Andhra Pradesh HC: a merchant's account can't be frozen just for receiving UPI from someone later accused of fraud. Karnataka HC: no freezing the whole account over a ₹25,000 order. Delhi HC: blanket freezing of an innocent holder is arbitrary.
→ Clean flow + proof = the law is moving in your favour.
4️⃣ PhonePe gets initial nod for two UAE licences 🇦🇪
In-principle approval from the UAE central bank for Retail Payment Services and Card Schemes & Stored Value Facilities (final approval still pending). It's PhonePe's own regulated presence in the Emirates. 720M+ users, 50M+ merchants, IPO-bound at ~$9–10.5B.
5️⃣ Razorpay expands beyond the checkout
Launched a new marketing platform (5 Oct) and holds RBI's cross-border PA-CB license.
6️⃣ UPI goes global (per reports)
Live in France (Eiffel Tower as a first merchant), and RuPay + UPI integration is live in Sri Lanka and Mauritius.
